I started looking more closely at VPN settings on my iPhone because I do not always want every app to behave in exactly the same way when the VPN is active. Sometimes I would rather have more control instead of simply turning the whole connection on or off. While checking iOS VPN options, I came across
https://toggle.org/vpn-for-ios and noticed that split tunneling is listed among the features. That caught my attention because I had seen the term before but never really understood why someone would want this option on a phone. Is it useful for ordinary everyday browsing?
I had a similar question when I was comparing the iOS features available in different VPN apps. What I found useful on the Toggle page is that split tunneling is presented alongside other practical controls rather than as some complicated technical feature. The same page also describes one-tap connection and a kill switch, so the idea seems to be giving users several ways to manage the connection without making the setup unnecessarily difficult. I would probably look at those features together instead of judging split tunneling by itself, especially if the goal is simple everyday use on an iPhone
